The Challenge
Material certificates for pipeline sections were lost due to mergers and acquisitions, employee retirements, or replacement of corroded and damaged joints over the years. The operator needed to determine pipe grade from yield strength and tensile strength values to ensure regulatory compliance and safe continued operation.
The Solution
In-situ ABI® tests were conducted on pipeline sections with unknown grades to determine API 5L grade. ABI-measured yield strength and tensile strength values were used to accurately classify each pipe joint, restoring the missing material documentation without service interruption or destructive sampling.
