Four Simple Steps
Remove Coating
Coating removed and sand blasted. A 12" x 4" surface is polished at 120 grit for the magnetic base.
Polish
A smaller 3" surface is polished at 220 grit for a smooth indentation surface (63 RMS).
Perform Tests
Six indentation tests for pipe grade and fracture toughness completed in under 30 minutes.
View Analyzed Results
Analyzed results showing API 5L grade and fracture toughness values are displayed immediately.
Pipes as small as 5.5" to full flat can be tested with the magnetic base.
How It Works
Macroscopic Indentation Technology
The ABI® test is a macroscopic (bulk) technique that measures material properties on a small volume of material. Ball indentations are shallow with smooth edges, producing compressive stresses that retard crack initiation. The remaining depression is similar in effect to shot-peening or sand blasting.
The system uses progressive cyclic loading with multiple partial unloadings to build a complete load-displacement profile from which true stress-strain curves and mechanical properties are derived.
