This Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) SBIR program report documents the development of a ruggedized, computer-controlled version of the ABI® system for Navy applications. The appendices contain detailed hardware specifications and validation test data on naval alloys.

The NAVAIR interest in ABI® reflects the Navy's need to assess the mechanical properties of aging aircraft structural components and naval vessel materials in the field. The requirement for a ruggedized, computer-controlled system suitable for shipboard and depot-level use drove development of a more robust version of the original laboratory ABI® system.

This report establishes the DoD/military validation lineage for ABI® technology, complementing the DOE nuclear validation and DOT pipeline validation to demonstrate acceptance across all three major government agencies responsible for structural integrity regulation.
