PRCI Report L52280 — Six-Laboratory Round Robin Study
PRCI Report L52280, Pipeline Research Council International, April 2007.
PRCI Report L52280 is the six-laboratory round robin study that provides a formal precision statement for ABI®/SSM® testing. This is the statistical document analogous to an ASTM standard's precision and bias section — the quantitative demonstration that ABI® measurements are reproducible across different operators, laboratories, and instruments.
Six independent pipeline research laboratories participated in the study, each testing identical pipeline steel specimens using the SSM® system under standardized conditions. The statistical analysis of results demonstrates the repeatability (same operator, same lab) and reproducibility (different operators, different labs) of ABI® measurements.
The precision statement derived from this study serves as the statistical backbone for both ASTM E636-14 conformance claims and alignment with PHMSA's 49 CFR §192.607 requirements. Without this interlaboratory validation, ABI® would lack the statistical evidence expected in regulated industries where measurement uncertainty must be quantified.
PRCI (Pipeline Research Council International) is the pipeline industry's own collaborative research organization, funded by major pipeline operators worldwide. PRCI's participation in this six-laboratory interlaboratory study reflects the pipeline industry's interest in the technology.
