Welding Procedure Qualification and In-Service Weld Integrity Assessment Using Innovative Nondestructive SSM® Technology
Haggag, F.M., "Welding Procedure Qualification and In-Service Weld Integrity Assessment Using Innovative Nondestructive SSM® Technology," Proceedings of the International Conference on The Joining of Metals, JOM-11, Helsingor, Denmark, May 25–28, 2003.
This paper demonstrates SSM® technology for welding procedure qualification and weld integrity assessment in the European industrial context. Presented at the International Conference on The Joining of Metals (JOM-11) in Denmark, the work shows European alloy systems and weld configurations tested with ABI®, broadening international recognition of the technique.
Welding procedure qualification is a mandatory requirement in fabrication codes worldwide. Each weld procedure must be qualified by destructive testing of test coupons — a process that consumes material and time. ABI® offers the possibility of qualifying procedures with minimal destructive testing, or of verifying production welds against qualified properties during fabrication.
The European venue was strategically important for expanding ABI®'s commercial reach beyond North America, demonstrating the technology's applicability to European standards, alloy grades, and weld specifications.
